It’s that time again. We’re almost to August, which means you’ve had many weeks to gather your thoughts, to live your best life, to experience all kinds of music (and its accompanying memes) across long, hot days and nights. We, collectively, have been training for this moment, and we’re ready for the task at hand: democratically determining the Song Of The Summer.

Your votes are in, and your collective voice has been heard resoundingly. This year’s winner in our annual Song Of The Summer readers’ poll really ran away with it, receiving three times as many votes as the next closest contender. But it’s fun to see what else attracted big blocs of support, so as always, here’s a countdown of the top 10, followed by a playlist featuring all of your favorite 2023 summer jams. What is this year’s Song Of The Summer? Conventional wisdom suggests 2023 has not yielded one undeniable, ubiquitous, season-defining tune, and according to raw statistical data, the default pick would be Morgan Wallen’s long-running #1 smash “Last Night,” a not-particularly-special track that feels like it fell backwards into an historic chart run. But surely we’re not about to let that stop us from anointing a truly awesome summer jam as 2023’s ultimate sweltering anthem.

The votes are in, and we can now reveal the results of our annual Song Of The Summer readers’ poll. Any time a single released 37 years ago is in contention, you know it’s a weird year. Or maybe that’s just the new normal. Anyway, enjoy what’s left of the season, and check out your the top 10 vote-getters below.

Now that we’ve entered August, you probably have a pretty good idea of which songs have defined your summer. Today, as per Stereogum tradition, we’re asking you to choose one seasonal anthem to rule them all. That’s right: Our annual Song Of The Summer poll is back.

The dog days of democracy are here again. We are a few days into August, which means by now we should all be good and ready to answer the pressing question of our times: What is the song of the summer? As per usual, we at Stereogum are putting the question to you, a beacon of impeccable taste and unclouded judgment. For the next week, until noon ET on Tuesday, Aug. 10, you can select one (1) song to be bestowed with this annual superlative. Choose wisely.

As it turns out, even during a pandemic that has fundamentally altered the experience of summer, it's still been summer nonetheless. And now we know how y'all have been soundtracking the season. The votes are in, the results have been counted, and we can now present to you the top 10 vote-getters in our annual Song Of The Summer poll.

Summer isn't the same this year. Even though warm weather has allowed some of us to enjoy the great outdoors in a socially distant capacity, the COVID-19 pandemic has eliminated the chance to safely experience communal seasonal rituals like music festivals. Public pools are closed or else operating at limited capacity, and even if you did go for a swim, the usual carefree summer fun would surely be replaced by creeping anxiety about catching coronavirus in line for the waterslide. Bootleg neighborhood fireworks displays were the only July 4 festivities most municipalities could muster. The baseball season has yet to begin, and even when it does, no fans will be in the stands to enjoy dime-a-dog night. On top of the social and cultural damage, we're mourning thousands of dead friends and loved ones. It's just a shitty situation all around.

Two weeks ago, as is our time-honored tradition, we asked our readers to select this year's Song Of The Summer. The votes are in, and we have a winner.

Appropriately enough for a season defined by swimming pools, sweat, and refreshing ice-cold beverages, the Song Of The Summer is a slippery concept. Does it merely amount to the summer's most popular and inescapable track? If so, our current Song Of The Summer is "Old Town Road," objectively the biggest hit of not just summer 2019 but the whole damn year. Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus' joyous country-rap novelty is the year's most streamed song, and today it will likely be announced as America's #1 single for the 15th straight week, one shy of the all-time record. (UPDATE: Yep.) Statistically, it rules.

What is the Song Of The Summer, exactly? Practically speaking, it is whatever you want it to be, thanks to the return of our annual Song Of The Summer reader poll. But, like, conceptually? Constitutionally? Existentially? That's a tricky question to pin down.

The votes are in, and we're ready to announce the winner of Stereogum's annual Song Of The Summer poll. Will Michael McDonald be pleased? We're not sure because the victor is a song we didn't ask him about. His beloved Father John Misty did crack the list, though.

We're now more than halfway through July, which means practically speaking we've reached the fulcrum point of summer 2017. That means you've probably got a good idea of what music will be soundtracking your glorious memories of these halcyon days when you look back on them from some undetermined moment in the future. Now's your chance to let the world know exactly what you've been bumping this season, just as you bumped Future Islands in 2014 and Jamie xx in 2015 and Chance The Rapper in 2016. That's right: It's time to vote for the Song Of The Summer.

Summer is rapidly careening to a close. We as a hemisphere are currently immersed in the dog days, a time of constant heat advisories and fantasy football drafts and Hollywood castoffs that can be described as neither blockbusters nor Oscar bait. Schools are opening, pools are closing, and the seemingly endless march through festival season is -- hold on, actually, that's continuing for at least another two months. But one thing that has definitely concluded is voting for the Song Of The Summer.

We're a few days into August, which means Summer Sixteen is about halfway over, officially speaking, and rapidly drawing to a conclusion if you consider Labor Day Weekend the end of the season like any reasonable person. This also means it's time for Stereogum's annual Song Of The Summer poll!

It still feels like summer, but that won't last long. We're less than two weeks away from #PSL and before you know it we'll be wearing flannel. It’s not a moment too soon: unless you somehow avoided all major news (and everything Donald Trump has said) recently, this summer hurt like a motherfucker. How appropriate that this year had the worst back-to-back summer #1s since the Vertical Horizon/Matchbox Twenty debacle of 2000. Fortunately neither OMI nor Wiz made it to the top of Stereogum's Song Of The Summer readers' survey. Our list of the 10 top vote-getters does have "Cheerleader," sure, but he’s way down at #10. Above him are the druggy breakthrough from an Ed Sheeran-and-Taylor Swift-approved NJ rapper, a sexed-up jam from the reigning King Of Narco-Pop, an unfuckwithable banger from Canadian Idol S05's third place winner, and even a couple of left-field rock songs. I'm not sure exactly when Song Of The Summer became a thing. Magazines, radio, and MTV were never tripping over each other trying to anoint a seasonal winner back in the pre-blog era. Maybe they were not as desperate for Hot Summer Content? Their loss! Here on Stereogum we started talking informally about Song Of The Summer back in 2005, and since then we've run regular reader polls to try to find some consensus. It's been fun ... mostly. Last year many of you were angry with our SOTS poll because the choices were very pop-heavy. At the time I said the Song Of The Summer by definition has to be ubiquitous and you did not agree. So we've made some changes. If you think "Dimed Out" deserves this year's honor, that is your prerogative. This year there are no nominees at all: You can vote for whatever you want! Please no old songs, though. (Sorry, Len.) We'll tally your submissions then reveal the #1. You also may have noticed we're running this poll several weeks later than we did last year. That's intentional. We're in the thick of the season right now; determining the Song Of The Summer in July would be almost as difficult as picking the year's best albums in … July. So enter your Song Of The Summer 2015 in the fields below by 8/13 at noon EST. And feel free to campaign for your pick in the comments of this post. The song of the summer is a slippery, ephemeral thing. You can try to predict it, labels can (and will) try their hardest to make sure that their song is the one that comes out on top, but it's still an imprecise science. It means different things to different people, certain niches will gravitate toward specific songs. But, typically, the song of the summer transcends most industry machinations -- it's a matter of the collective unconscious, something that just seems to be rather than something that is mapped out. It's not apparent now, but sometime in mid-September, once the leaves start changing color, we'll look back and say, "Yeah, that was the song." It will be something that rises above genre boundaries -- the indie kids will get down to it at parties, pop music stans will push it to the forefront of culture, and metalheads won't be able to avoid it: in malls, in commercials, blasting out of someone's car.

So here we are: After a contentious polling process and thousands of votes cast, the results are in! And your song of the summer is ...

Last week, we embarked on the process of assembling a ballot for our Song Of The Summer poll, and thanks to you guys, we now have that ballot assembled. We're looking at 10 legit possibilities for SOTS 2014 -- most are pop hits that are already hovering atop the charts, but we didn't disqualify suggestions that maybe seemed too old or obscure to legit win the SOTS honor. (Note: we want you to vote for the track that represents this season for you -- the song that will always remind you of this time this year.) We ended up with a pretty diverse segment of the contemporary music landscape, but in fact all of the 10 tracks here taken together make up a pretty decent seasonal playlist. And we have created just such a playlist, which you'll find beneath the poll itself, to assist you in your selection. You get one (1) vote, and polls are open until EOD July 2. Remember, if you don't vote, you can't complain. (If you DO vote, complaints will be heard in the comments.)

When we did this poll last year, we knew even before voting began what the Song Of The Summer would be: "Get Lucky," obviously. And "Get Lucky" it was. Daft Punk absolutely crushed the competition, garnering nearly 50 percent of the total vote. The next highest vote-getter was Vampire Weekend's "Diane Young," which came in a distant second, with a relatively measly 17.5 percent. This summer, though, there's no such apparent favorite. The song that you will almost certainly hear most over the next few months, "Let It Go," from the Frozen soundtrack, belongs to no season -- it's been ubiquitous since winter, and will probably continue to be so through next winter. So what does that leave us?

We kicked off this process last month, when you guys nominated several thousand songs to be considered Song Of The Summer 2013, and after tabulating your nominations, we set up a poll and you voted for one of six songs -- from a ballot that included excellent summer jams by Kanye West, Disclosure, Vampire Weekend, and more. It was quite a horse race! But there can be only one winner. And that winner is ...

Last week, we asked you guys to give us some nominations for our 2013 Song Of The Summer poll, and you came through with hundreds of picks -- an assortment so varied and robust that it nearly broke the spirit of the intern we tasked with tabulating and organizing your choices into something resembling a consensus. But tabulate and organize he did! Break he did not! And here we are, with an official poll, ready for you to vote on. We've got a worthy slate of six candidates for you to choose from, and you get only one vote. So choose wisely! You want to be on the right side of history here! When we did this poll last year, we carefully chose slightly different language, asking you guys not to vote for the "Song Of The Summer," but the "Indie Song Of The Summer." Is there a difference? Hell if I know, man. I'm not even sure if "indie" is a real thing anymore -- and if it is a thing, I have no idea how to define it. So this year, we've dropped the "Indie" qualifier entirely, and we're making eligible anything that you guys are listening to. So it could be "Black Skinhead" or "Get Lucky" ... or Vampire Weekend's "Diane Young" or Disclosure's "When A Fire Starts To Burn" ... or, hell, Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," if you want. Hey, you could even vote for Queens Of The Stone Age's cover of Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." It's wide open over here.

Last month we asked you to shortlist then vote for The Indie Song Of Summer 2012. You guys came through with thousands of votes for jams from Twin Shadow, Best Coast, and the Walkmen -- because you have good taste -- but your #1 choice handily beat those all. Now that it's Independence Day (happy Independence Day, btw), the polls are closed and we're ready to reveal the winner...

Last week we asked you to shortlist the Indie Song Of The Summer for 2012. You delivered with hundreds of suggestions (and upvotes/downvotes). So now that it's officially summer, and we've got sun in our teeth and hair, we're going to put those nominees to an official vote. What's the track that should define this season's BBQs, beach outings, and sticky subway rides? Or, as Amrit put it, "the indie banger to canonize as the representative soundtrack for your summer of looseness and bad decisions"? This year, we've got ten strong contenders. Yesterday was New York's first very hot and sticky day of the year, and while it's not officially summertime, soon enough we'll all be eating ices and going to the beach CONSTANTLY. Not sitting in our apartments blogging I'm sure. Since our favorite summertime memories will remain soundtracked by the music of the day, it's probably not too early to decide now what the Song Of The Summer 2011 should be. You don't want to link next month's Independence Day barbecue forever with "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall." Today Vulture presents a slightly tweaked version of Buzzfeed's last 30 years of summer songs, and it seems like a pretty accurate list. So take a look below and fill in the blank: 2011. My guess for the hit that will be most inescapable in the coming weeks: Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," Beyoncé's "Party" (Feat. André 3000), Adele's "Turning Tables," or a Pitbull song. As much as we love Iceage, there's a strong chance our national Song Of The Summer won't be by a Danish punk band. But hey -- nominate whatever you want.
