This year’s Gummy Awards winners are in. It’s our 19th (!) annual Stereogum readers’ poll highlighting the year’s best albums and songs.

We’re in the thick of year-end list season, and it’s time for Stereogum readers to collaborate on one of the best. We at Stereogum have shared our lists of the best albums and EPs of 2023, and soon we’ll share lists of our staffers’ favorite songs plus lots of roundups by genre. Y’all can contribute to this package by voting in our annual readers’ poll, the Gummy Awards.

The polls have closed, the votes have been counted, and it’s time to reveal the results of our annual readers’ poll the Gummy Awards. It seems y’all still love indie rock very much, with just a pinch of big-budget pop sprinkled throughout. We only included one song per artist, and some reader favorites were excluded due to a split vote. Then again, all of the top tracks were by artists who piled up votes for multiple songs, so better luck next year, Grimace!

Now that the Stereogum staff has begun rolling out our coverage of the year’s best music, it’s time for you to officially voice your own opinions. Our annual readers’ poll the Gummy Awards is live. Below, you can vote for one (1) album and one (1) song from 2022. Tracks released before this year that were included on a 2022 album or made a significant impact on this year are eligible, so if you’re looking to hype up an early single from your favorite January LP or repeat Kate Bush’s Song Of The Summer success, go nuts.

This year, in keeping with the end-of-decade festivities that have proliferated around the internet lately -- including here at Stereogum -- we also solicited your picks for the best album and song of the entire 2010s. Seemingly every pop culture freak in the world is unveiling their year-end best-of list -- the Stereogum staff included -- and now it's once again time for you, the collective Stereogum readership, to voice your opinions in our annual readers' poll. We call it the Gummy Awards, and you can vote in it starting now.

The votes are in, and now we are pleased to share the results of our annual readers' poll, the Gummy Awards. We asked you to select your favorite music of the year, and in that regard there's a good deal of overlap with our own favorite albums and songs of 2017 -- especially at the very top of the albums race, where #1's margin of victory over #2 was even more ridiculously slim than in our staff poll. But as usual you readers asserted your own distinct taste as well, particularly your enduring love for critically acclaimed big-tent indie rock. Now the results are in, and I don't think Gummy winners have ever matched up so closely with our writers' year-end picks before. This is the 11th year we've done a readers' poll -- also known as the Gummy Awards -- and we know Stereogum readers love ranking things, so this should be be pretty straightforward. For the 10th year, we asked you to tell us the best music of the past twelve months. It's a hallowed family tradition we call The Gummy Awards and by holding it a little later than usual this year, you guys were able to vote for albums like Black Messiah and The Pinkprint that came too late to be considered by most other year-end lists. With only two days of the year left, we can probably consider this a fair Best Of 2014 readers' poll.

It's time for the 10th annual Gummy Awards, Stereogum's year-end readers' poll in which you guys choose the music that mattered most in the past twelve months. We're doing things a little differently this year! With our sister site Videogum in heaven (R.I.P.) we've stripped the categories about movies, TV, and viral videos. While we're at it, we nixed less essential categories like Best Music Video and Best New Act. (Those were never required responses anyway, and most voters skipped 'em). So just two questions for you this year, but they're important and we want you to answer both: What was 2014's best album and what was 2014's best song? You can define "best" however you want and you can define "2014" to include Beyoncé if you so desire. Oh, what a Gummy Awards it's been! As Stereogum and Videogum's readers poll has rolled on, we've seen your picks for 2013's best albums, new bands, music videos, TV shows, movies, and viral videos. Now it's time to conclude the festivities with a rundown of the 10 best songs of 2013 as voted by you. It's a narrow list in that three artists are represented by multiple songs. It's a broad list in that it ranges from waking on a pretty day to staying up all night to get lucky. Survey the survey results below.

Yesterday we started announcing the winners of our annual Gummy Awards -- Stereogum & Videogum's annual readers' poll -- with your Top 50 Albums Of 2013. And today, we move on to the category of Best New Act. It's a pretty dynamic and diverse list including, for example, two brothers from England, three sisters from California, two 38-year-old veterans who joined forces under a new name, and a rookie who turned 17 last month. It's time for the 8th annual Gummy Awards, Stereogum & Videogum's readers' poll to determine the best stuff you've heard and seen in 2013. You guys have great taste and you love lists, so this should go pretty smoothly. Like last year, we wanna know what you think were the year's Best Album, Best Song, Best Music Video, Best New Act, Best TV Show, Best Movie, and Best Viral Video. (There's no Indie Rock Crush category this time because we're saving that for Valentine's Day.) As always, there are no nominees -- vote for whatever you want! -- except in the Viral Video category, which has 10 choices selected by Videogum. Everyone who submits a ballot will be entered to win a cool and relevant prize: the year's 10 best albums (as determined by these poll results) on vinyl, courtesy of our friends at Insound. (In the event that one of the top 10 does not exist on vinyl, ahemYeezus, that one will be provided on "compact disc.") Two weeks ago, we crowned Fiona Apple with the honor of Stereogum's Top Album Of 2012. Today, you guys gave your award, the vaunted Best Album Gummy, to another. We could have seen it coming, given this week's Mr. Indie Rock reveal. We also could have seen it coming since it's been his year all along. He's built a demographic coalition and transcended "genre" restrictions on the back of stirring live performances, tremendous talent, and a very brave Tumblr post. (Also: that face.) His is a contemporary epic mining a very modern sort of intimacy. Hails to Frank Ocean, and his Channel Orange, winner of your 2012 Gummy for Best Album.

And with the other 19 slots on this list, you guys offered a referendum on a few records we left off ours: Father John Misty, Death Grips, Jack White, Alt-J, and Animal Collective. The rest of our lists essentially line up: Fiona and Kendrick and Dirty Projectors' lyrical headspins are Top 10 material. You gave it up to Tame Impala, and Grizzly Bear, and Beach House. The Gummys! We're still in it! So far this week you've crowned M.I.A. & Romain Gavras's "Bad Girls" with this year's Gummy for Best Video, and Japandroids' "House That Heaven Built" as this year's Best Track. Today we learn about your favorite rookies and hope that, unlike the Grammys, this Best New Artist designation ensures a long and fruitful career full of blogposts and monetized streams galore. (If you know how these guys can at least break even, let us know.)

On to the results: On a straight count of the ballot, if you had your way, this year's winner would be Frank Ocean, and this year's runner-up would be Purity Ring. Those would be tremendous and logical choices, if only you hadn't made Frank Ocean #9 and Purity Ring #10 in last year's Gummys. With Frank and Purity Ring sadly ineligible, we're left with a list of 10 artists that is still very sharp and genre-spanning. There wasn't tremendous overlap between your selections and our list of Best New Artists from earlier this year, but there we have consensus where it counts -- up at #1 -- so clearly we are all still able to hang out and be friends. Our rundown of this year's Gummy Awards results continues! Close watchers of yesterday's Top 20 Tracks reveal will be interested to learn that 60% of these selections also appeared on yesterday's list, though the #1 Best Video isn't on your top Top Tracks list, and vice versa. Interesting! (And a note to aforementioned Close Watchers who find this "Interesting!": We salute your nerdiness and love for stats.) One more stat for you, then: As a medium, music videos tend to reward singular, charismatic focal points, so it's little surprise that this year's list is 70% full of solo artists -- charismatic and singular to the letter.
